Zurvan: The Deity of Time and the Origin of Light and Darkness

In the primordial time, when nothing yet existed, Zurvan, the god of time, brought forth Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu, known as Ahriman. Zurvan was initially intertwined with three elements: wind, fire, and smoke. Wind was known as space and represented Zurvan’s body, fire signified light and brilliance, and smoke merged with darkness. Thus, Zurvan encompassed the vastness of the cosmos—a blend of space, light, and darkness—much like nature’s version of “the phoenix rising from ashes.” All that was needed was the separation of these three elements to set the first act of creation into motion.

With this separation, Ahura Mazda and Ahriman crafted the first plane of creation. Light and darkness, permitted their realms, began to unfold across the structured layers of existence. Since Zurvan occupied the center, light and darkness revolved around this midpoint, infusing the space of Zurvan’s form with the cosmic gateway—known as the gate of energy exchange. This gateway gave rise to two opposing luminous particles, circling in opposite directions, symbolizing the realms of matter and antimatter and creating a dualistic essence of light and darkness.

The Dance of Balance: Creation and Cosmic Battle

As the cosmic forces of light and darkness clashed in the initial realm of creation, a growing imbalance in dark energy led one realm to weaken, disrupting the equilibrium. To stabilize this, creation advanced through successive layers: from the core of alpha to the electron orbits in the fifth, and finally, to the sixth layer of the cosmos. Each plane builds upon Zurvan’s essence, embodying two mirrored worlds on either side of the central cosmic gateway.

At the dawn of our world, there was nothing but two essences—one of pure, radiant light and the other of dark, chaotic force. The lord of light, Mitra, ruled over a realm of harmony and beauty, untouched by decay or darkness. Meanwhile, the ruler of darkness reigned over his own ominous domain. Separated by existence itself, these realms remained apart until the day the demon of Greed, or "Uz," stumbled upon the world of light, a dazzling world that ignited his ambition to conquer it. Thus, he launched an assault with his demonic legion against the realm of brightness.

The Battle of Light and Darkness: Mitra and the Demon of Greed

In the cosmic battles between Mitra, the god of light, and the demon of greed, Uz, the forces of light and darkness intertwined, forming the material world we inhabit today. We are the remnants of these two forces, living in the physical realm, still carrying forward the ancient struggle. Ever since these battles began, death and illness entered existence, shaping humanity as we know it. With this shift came forgetfulness, leaving us lost, uncertain of who we truly are. But know this: each of us embodies one of these two forces. We either offer generosity, embracing the light, or cling to greed, shadowed by darkness.

The Legacy of Zurvan: Reflections in the Stars

This ancient myth reflects the state of our current time, where dark forces hold greater power. Zurvan, as the cosmic gateway, grows narrow under this imbalance, dimming the light of the North Star. We see it as a dark, wandering point moving across the northern sky—a reminder of how Zurvan’s own essence has darkened. Now, as we peer into the cosmos, space itself seems shadowed, for this is Zurvan’s body that has dimmed, dotted by the stars shining within.

As we journey through these cosmic tales, may we remember the dance of light and darkness, forever entwined yet distinct, urging us to find balance within ourselves as we navigate the mysteries of existence.
